Latex Mattresses

About Latex Mattresses
High quality natural latex is naturally breathable due to the holes in the foam from the steaming process. This is a great material for people who are looking to stay with natural materials and reduce chemicals in the home. The material doesn't compress like traditional foam. The average life span on latex mattreses is between 15 and 25 years.
Latex mattresses are made of foam rubber from the rubber tree. This all natural material has a different cell structure than polyeurethane foam and is more durable and lasts longer. It also doesn't have the chemicals that polyeurethane foam has.
There are three types of latex material, Dunlop latex, Talalay Latex, and synthetic latex.
Dunlop latex is made from the rubber tree sap and the material is mixed into a froth then poured into molds and steamed. It is then allowed to cool naturally, and washed and dried.
Talalay latex is made the same way that dunlop latex is made, however it is flash frozen as part of the curing process. This makes a much more consistent material without deformations from settling. Talalay latex is considered to be a finer quality.
Synthetic latex is usually just polyeurethane foam that is designed to mimic the feel of natural latex. It doesn't last as long as the real thing, but is cheaper to manufacture.
